Summary

My final stats are as follows

Statistics for UMSL

Professors reviewed: 9

Works Added to Bepress: 75

Open access works added to Bepress: 9

Statistics for Mizzou

Departments worked: 19

Professors reviewed: 184

Open access pdfs found: 314

By creating greater discoverability for open access works I felt I was actually making a difference, for the universities, the professors, and most importantly the students. I have always valued freedom of information (that’s what drew me to purse a master’s in Library and Information Sciences) and this was a practical way to put those ethics into practice.

Working with other students to optimize the workflow as we changed universities was another highlight of this practicum. I also practiced troubleshooting when the chrome extension began running slowly, and with Lena’s help was able to utilize Chromium (which is open access!) to speed up the task, another important skill.

Overall, I’m glad I was able to participate in this practicum. I had a lot of fun talking with Lena, and I’m very proud of the work I accomplished. I want to thank Lena for being so understanding, helpful, and a general bright spot during a global pandemic.

  1. Were you successful in “updating links on faculty sheet to teams links,” Any suggestions or problems with this?

    • Yes, I was successful! If anyone else has issues I would suggest using the link provided internally by teams instead of grabbing the URL from the browser bar.
