St. Malachy’s Church

St. Malachy’s Church stood at 2900 Clark Street. Taken in the 1940s, the photo shows the church prior to the Mill Creek Valley urban renewal project. St. Malachy’s began in the late 1850s as a Catholic church for the Irish residents of the neighborhood before serving a largely African American community by the 1940s. St. Malachy’s was torn down in December of 1959.
