Redd Foxx

John Elroy Sanford, better known by his stage name, Redd Foxx, was born in St. Louis in 1922. Redd Foxx became notable for his role as Fred Sanford on the television show Sanford and Son. In the show, Foxx went back to his roots in his line, “My people are in St. Louis.” In 1973, the remaining section of Spring Avenue in the Grand Center neighborhood was renamed Redd Foxx Lane in honor of the late actor.
