Description
In George L. Vaughn’s 45-year law career in Mill Creek, he distinguished himself as a staunch defender of the rights of African Americans. He is best known for bringing Shelley v. Kraemer before the Supreme Court, successfully arguing against racially-restrictive housing covenants that locked black people out of “white” neighborhoods. He also served as the first editor of the St. Louis Argus and first president of the Mound City Bar Association.
