The Peoples Finance Building was the hub of civil rights activity in Mill Creek Valley. The first black-owned, black-made building in the city, it was home to the offices of black lawyers and organizations that worked for community uplift. Here, civil rights leaders of local and national prominence came together to discuss ways to combat discrimination. The work emanating out of the Peoples Finance Building and the surrounding neighborhood made waves across the city.
