History of the St. Louis Greek Community

St. Louis Greek Family and Community History

A digital exhibit of the history of families and
organizations of St. Louis and the wider areas of

Missouri and East Illinois

Introduction

Welcome to the Digital Exhibit on the History of Greek Communities in Missouri and East Illinois. This exhibit is organized by the Hellenic Government-Karakas Family Foundation Professorship in Greek Studies of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, in collaboration with the Digital Humanities Lab of the Department of History.
Our purpose is to present and preserve for posterity materials related to the Greek presence in the area from the 19th century to the present. Through our Oral History Project, we seek to collect the voices, photos, and documents of individuals, families, and organizations who have shaped local Greek communities.
This exhibit is open-ended and will be continuously updated with new materials, ensuring a comprehensive and evolving record of Greek-American heritage in the region.
