Coming Together: Community Organizations and Entertainment

Subject

Mill Creek Valley was known, above all else, for its thriving social scene, which included community centers, entertainment venues, and meeting places. This postcard was sent from Harold Green to Sally Cathrell, a prominent journalist who began the “Show-Down” Magazine to highlight entertainment acts in major cities. The event in question took place on April 11, 1937 at the West End Hall on the corner of Vandeventer and Finney Avenues. In addition to being an entertainment event, the occasion also served as a social spot for many locals.
